Of Wings And White

Cries, like half-told whispers, take flight
Plead for mercy in the dread and dark of night
Cast down, no reasons given for my plight
“Please God, help me” I scream toward the morbid sky

Through the black – a blinding light
Thunder crack, my world goes white
Where am I? A golden hall
Of wings and white, my saviour calls my name

Sighs, like fond remembered sunshine, so warm
Tears, unbridled joy and happiness adorn
Fall down to my knees, “you saved me from this hell”
“Hark, child” the figure said. “Listen now and listen well”

“New life begins and old life ends
Repent your sins and make amends
Be one of us and pledge your soul
Of wings and white forever more”

“One hundred thousand angels
Shall sing the songs and sound the herald call
The gates of paradise shall open
Eternal servitude is your reward”

Torn by indecision for my fate
Saved from one hell yet I pause before the gates
A master, dark or light, is still lord to be served
In blinking eye, I wake to find I’m falling back to blackened earth

As I plunge toward the ground
From above a fearful sound
“Hark, my child – you must repent
Your only hope is heaven sent”

“One hundred thousand angels
Shall sing the songs and sound the herald call
But ignore this final warning
Join us or we’ll watch you as you fall
And you’ll be damned!”
